Cypress Child Care Center

The Child Care Center is located at 108 Pine Street, in the heart of Cypress Hills and is accessible by public transportation. It opened in 2000 after a large-scale, state of the art renovation project undertaken by the organization in recognition of the need to increase the availability of quality, affordable, child care in the community. The Child Care Center serves up to 70 children ages 2.6 to 5 years old, in four classrooms through the 3K and Pre-K for All /Universal Pre Kindergarten (UPK) program. Our extended day (8 a.m to 6 p.m.) allows parents to leave for work and/or school knowing that their children will be cared for in a safe and loving, culturally sensitive environment with dedicated bilingual staff. There is an outdoor play area for the exclusive use of the Child Care Center. The Child Care Center instills an early love for reading. We have a beautiful library created by Books for Kids which features special visits and read-alouds. Nutritious meals and snacks are prepared on site and served to the children at no extra cost. Our Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and subscribes to the Creative Curriculum philosophy to support active learning through a variety of rich learning experiences. All students benefit from the program. It’s well established that quality child care and UPK boost children’s language development and early literacy skills as well as their math and science proficiency. Funding for the Center’s operations is provided by contract with the New York City Department of Education (formerly by the New York City Agency for Children’s Services) combined with modest fees for families which are based on income, family size, and other criteria. Four slots are non-city funded and are for private slots.

CHCCC is unique because of our extensive community involvement, family support and commitment to professional development for our staff. We assess the educational outcomes of our programs through the Creative Curriculum Gold, which meets Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework, national benchmarks for preschool learning that are aligned with New York State’s Common Core standards for learning. All of our child care programs promote young children’s optimal development including their health, school readiness, and preparation for lifelong success. We also offer a range of programs for Cypress Hills families to help support their goals of nurturing their children and achieving financial stability.
